I'm testing the REAPER x64 waters and so far I didn't stumble upon many reasons to not make the switch. All my paid for VST and VSTis work and only a couple of the freebies refuse to load. Those are not even the ones I use regularly, so that's good. However, there are a few things worth mentioning. Every now and then, when I load an existing REAPER x32 project, I get the message that VST/VSTi settings weren't loaded and that they might be lost when the project is saved. When I close REAPER and then start it again and load the same project, everything is fine? What's up with that? Now the more "serious" issue. When I load an existing REAPER x32 project, or a project started in the x64 version, and go to the Render window, I noticed that very often the project's original render WAV bit depth value suddenly has changed. (I have 44.1kHz 24-bits and 44.1kHz 16-bit projects) What it looks like, after some testing, is that when the render value in REAPER x64 is changed, the bit depth value in the Project Settings (Audio tab) gets changed too. And the other way around. That's not all. When loading another project, the bit depth value is NOT updated in the Project Settings/Render window. The former value just will sit there silently until it is manually changed. The bit depth value shown on the right side of the menu bar is still what it is supposed to be. That fact threw me off at first. To reproduce this: start REAPER. Set the WAV bit depth in the Project Setting or Render window to 64. Close the project, don't even save it, load a 24-bit project and big surprise... suddenly the Projects Settings and the Render WAV bit depth have changed from 24 to 64. You can reproduce this with any value at will. Try a 32-bit or a 16-bit project, they all get changed to 64 until the value in the Project Settings or Render window is manually changed to something else! Very annoying, to say the least, because it means checking the bit depth value in the Project Settings every time a project is loaded. Seems like a bug to me, but I still wanted to report my findings here first and see if someone else can reproduce this or correct me if I'm doing something wrong.
