It's the Lucid AD9624, and what a difference it makes...really. As I mentioned, just clocking to it made a difference in opening up the sound of the 001's D/A. I opted for the 2 channel stereo converter because it was perfect for a 2 channel front end combined with the FMR units, it has 96k sampling if I want to use it with a higher quality interface than the 001, and I can always add the corresponding Lucid D/A later. Since the unit is basically a one-trick pony (as opposed to the mic pre/converter combos or 8 channel A/D/A variety), I know all the "bang" in my "buck" is going toward the conversion process, and nothing has been "skimped" on in an effort to pack more features in the unit. Fits nice with the FMR's in my rack, too...good looking little unit. ...and I LOVE the RNP so far. I've only recorded a direct bass thru it so far (did you give a listen?), so I haven't done any vocals yet, which will be the next test. It's a little noisy, but no matter...a very worthwhile trade off for the tone, and the bass covered up the noise floor easily anyway (do you hear any noise in the bass track?). It's got a great open, airy quality with very responsive and flexable controls...I forsee many different applications with this unit. Man...do I dig it for the bass though...especially with the RNC patched in! I'm loving this little rig...the three units work very nice together.

well the depth difference is very impressive. talk about opening up everything. sounds very pro doesnt it! have you tried the ART Pro MPA with that RNC into the Lucid? (how would the ART fit into that chain replacing the RNP) I too have the art and waiting for my RNC to arrive any day. have you notice a big improvement over the ART with the RNP? What are you going to do with the ART now? great work, nice setup should make you feel good about your rig.

thanks for that reply..can you make the lucid act as your master clock, improving all your other pre's as well? do you mind indulging me one quick minute: I'm in a very similar place. I want to track drums, I want to improve all my overdubs. my idea! I own the art (2 pre's) the digi (2 pre's) a dbx 376 mic/eq/comp.(1 pre) thats 5 (I'll need 7 for drums) i thought about grabing the Octopre (analoge only) then picking up something like the RME 8 channel converter and be done! (each drum converted nicely, overdubs through octopre or art/dbx depending on the desired flavor) then into the converters. .thats all about $1800.00ish or do something similar to you. pick up another 2 channel pre (RNP or Aphex 207 w/limiters both about same price) then having 7 total pre's for drums and the lucid. letting the 001 convert all my drums and the lucid chain as master clock and on the overheads. ..all about $1200.00ish (I still havent ruled out the mini-me for same price, I'm just not sure how its converters match up with the lucids) I'm just not sure I'll get the same drum quality mixing and matching all those pres as apposed to the octopre/RME8 approach? if you find yourself tracking drums I'd like to know how that approach works out for you. man, decisions, decisions, decisions! thanks again and happy recording

wow yeah it really opened things up quite a bit! the only downfall i see is that you can only process one instrument at a time through the lucid or maybe tweak the entire section at master time. thoughts? ken;
